How To Save Time & Discomfort With a One-Visit Crown

We were recently interviewed on our one-visit crown service, and we’d like to share that interview with you.

One-visit crown procedures are becoming more popular, but still aren’t widely offered. We estimate that about 1 in 3 dental offices nationwide offer this service, although that number is growing.

As more people find out about this service we receive more questions, and we’ll answer the most common questions today.

How does a one-visit crown save patients time and discomfort?

If you’d had a crown in the past, you’re probably familiar with the multi-step process covering several weeks, two rounds of anesthetic injections and a temporary crown.

We can consolidate that into one office visit, eliminating the need for a temporary crown, a second visit and another round of anesthetic.

What are the downsides to a temporary crown?

Problems tend to come up when temporary crowns don’t fit quite right, which aside from the discomfort, can also cause the temporary crown to pop off and cause sensitivity in an exposed tooth.

Are there any other pros or cons to a one-visit crown?

The main drawback is simply that a one-visit crown takes a little longer than if you simply had an initial appointment for x-rays and impressions.

However, there’s another benefit of the technology behind the one-visit crown.

Just in the last 18-24 months, this technology has been successfully applied to implants and bridges. So we’re seeing new applications and new ways of saving patients time and discomfort.

How can people learn more about crowns and other dental procedures?

The best place is the Restorative Dentistry page on our site, which has a Patient Education section with links to 3d videos as well as helpful articles and guides.
